Educational Opportunities
The
Department
of Rehabilitation Sciences offers professional education leading
to masters' degrees in both occupational
therapy and physical
therapy, with the purpose of educating generalist practitioners.
Practicing occupational therapists and physical therapists can build
on their professional experiences and achieve professional goals by studying
for their post-professional masters' and doctoral degrees to specialize
in geriatric neurological rehabilitation. Courses specific to geriatric
neurology include physiology of aging, motor learning, clinical interventions,
and managing patients with balance and vestibular disorders.
Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Science
The Master
of Science degree program in Rehabilitation Science is an interdisciplinary
program designed to permit students to build on their professional disciplines
and follow individualized plans of study according to their future goals.
The program requires a minimum of 36 credit hours, including interdisciplinary
core courses, individualized courses including in the specialization of
geriatric neurology, research courses, and a thesis or other approved
scholarly work.
Doctor of Philosophy in Allied Health Science
The Doctor
of Philosophy degree program in Allied Health Sciences is an
interdisciplinary program that promotes expansion of knowledge across
disciplines and informed collaboration among disciplines. The program
requires 90 credits beyond the bachelor's degree and up to 44 credits
in approved master's degree courses may be applied. Requirements include
interdisciplinary core courses, individualized courses including in the
specialization of geriatric neurology, research courses, and a doctoral
dissertation.
