Dietetic Internship, Certificate

The Internship is a post-baccalaureate supervised practice experience designed to assist the student in meeting performance competencies necessary for registration with the American Dietetic Association. The mission of the Program is to produce entry-level generalist dietitians with enhanced skills in community dietetics.

General Characteristics:

  • A generalist experience with an emphasis in community dietetics;
  • Thirty-one weeks in length;
  • Entire experience consists of 1,128 clock hours of scheduled supervised practice and didactic activity and 4 holidays;
  • Students complete three modules of rotations (foodservice management, clinical, and community);
  • Sites of each rotation vary and include locations all over the state of Oklahoma;
  • Students are assigned to rotation sites based on application ranking, student preference, and sometimes facility interviews; and
  • Begins January and June of each year.

    Basic Rotations:

  • Approximately 9 weeks foodservice/management rotation;
  • Approximately 9 weeks community rotation (experiences in wellness, intervention project at local agency, development disabilities, public schools, WIC, home health, long term care, political advocacy, etc.); and
  • Approximately 9 weeks clinical rotation.

  • The first week of the Internship is spent in orientation on-site at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City;

  • There are 6 designated class days (2 days within each rotation) in which didactic work is completed independently through Blackboard Learning Activities;

  • Students who are accepted must enroll in NS 7426 (Dietetic Internship)
