ALPHA ETA

Alpha Eta is the National Honor Society of the Allied Health Professions whose members represent the top ten percent of graduates of Allied Health Schools and Colleges. The name is derived from the Greek for the first letters of our profession, Allied (Alpha) and Health (Eta). There are over 50 chapters nationwide and some 8000 members have been initiated since its beginnings in 1975.

The University of Oklahoma Chapter at the College of Allied Health is the founding chapter in Oklahoma (1982). Primary purpose of the Society is to recognize excellence and promote leadership and scholarship in the allied health profession. Each spring the Society hosts the College of Allied Health Research Exposition for students and faculty to exhibit their research.

Students considered for invitation to membership must meet the following criteria; be in the last year of their program, meet minimum grade requirements, and must demonstrate leadership capabilities.

Students eligible for application to Alpha Eta invited annually to apply. Students accepted for membership are honored at an initiation banquet where they are presented a certificate and pin and cord to be worn at graduation.

Students with questions on Alpha Eta or the application process may contact one of the following faculty:

Allied Health Sciences: David Garrison
Communications Sciences and Disorders: Stephen Painton or Ann Owen
Nutritional Sciences: Allen Knehans
Rehabilitation Sciences: Ken Randall or Susan Tucker
Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences: Connie Mairs
