Dietetic Internship: Missions, Goals, and Outcomes

Mission
The mission of the Dietetic Internship is to produce entry-level, generalist dietitians with enhanced skills in community and public health nutrition.
Goals

To further the DI’s mission, goals have been established that reflect the ends toward which the program’s resources and faculty efforts will be directed.  The program will:

  • Graduate entry-level practitioners with a generalist background and enhanced skills in community dietetics, who:
    • are competent
    • demonstrate professionalism and ethical behavior
  • Increase dietetic manpower in the public health/community nutrition settings
Measurable Outcomes:
  • Alumni achieve over a 5-year period a first-time pass rate of at least 80% on the RD exam.
  • 75% of students will be rated as above average to outstanding on at least 50% of their competency evaluations.
  • Within 12 months of completing the program, at least 85% of the graduates will be employed in dietetics-related jobs or enrolled in advanced education.
  • 90% of the students admitted to the DI will complete the program within 11 months of starting the program.
  • 95% of employed graduates will agree that program graduates are competent professionals and ready to assume entry-level positions as dietitians
  • During their first year of employment, graduates will be ranked by at least 75% of employers as above average in professional knowledge and skills as compared to other entry-level dietitians.
  • 75% of students will be rated above average to outstanding for the community specific competencies established by the DI program.
  • 95% of DI students will rate the overall quality of the community rotation as 3 or 4 (slightly – strongly agree)
  • Within 12 months of graduation 50% of the graduates will be employed in a public health/community nutrition setting.
