The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences is offering a variety of lecture formats and time offerings to meet the demands of busy practitioners. Continuing Education Courses
Full to one half day intensive courses offered on a variety of topics related to occupational and physical therapy practice. All courses will be evidence-based, offering the latest in usable research information. Most courses are offered through distance education, therefore available on both the Tulsa and Oklahoma City OUHSC campuses, unless otherwise noted. Cost: Dependent on number of class hours. Spinal Manipulation
In March 2008 we held another very well-received Spinal Manipulation Update course series with Peter Gibbons and Philip Tehan of Melbourne, Australia. Physical therapists and physicians from Oklahoma and 20 other states participated in the Fifth Annual Spinal Manipulation Update, as did physical therapy students from OUHSC and Langston University.

Bill Kinsinger, MD has been on the faculty of the Spinal Manipulation Update course series since 2005, and "The Kinsinger Report on Chiropractic" video is included in the program.

APTA Clinical Instructor Education and Credentialing Program:
Click here to view brochure for the APTA Clinical Instructor Education and Credentialing Program in Oklahoma City, OK. This event is sponsored by the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and is recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association and is offered on April 11th and 12th. The program addresses issues of planning and preparing for students during their clinical education and supporting ongoing learning through questioning and effective feedback. The Assessment Center provides each participant with the opportunity to apply information from the program in simulated situations.

Honorary Lectures
The Sharon Sanderson Lecture will be on March 28th from 3:30-5pm and is free and open to the public. It will be held in the OU Oklahoma City College of Health Auditorium Room 150 and broadcast to Tulsa Room 4201.

Interdisciplinary Management of Osteomyoplastic Amputation of the Lower Limb: The Ertl Approach
Click here to view brochure for The Ertl Approach Symposium to be held in Oklahoma City on April 18th and 19th. This event is sponsored by the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. The program will inform health professionals on the interdisciplinary management of the innovative osteomyoplastic amputation of the lower limb, commonly known as the "Ertl Approach". The following topics will be addressed: history, selected surgical approaches of primary amputation and revision of the lower limb, comprehensive and individualized rehabilitation for functional restoration; prosthetic management specific to this approach, the need for comprehensive care for those with amputation surgery; the amputee perspective; and a research update. This is a pertinent topic for all who care for amputees in the State of Oklahoma and the surrounding region.

Clinical Educator Brown Bag Lunch Series
In appreciation of our clinical educators and fieldwork supervisors, The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is providing FREE on-site courses for your facility with 5 or more participants. STARS Courses
The Statewide Training Regional Support (STARS) program is a centralized training system for individuals working with and families of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, students age 6 through 21 with disabilities, and adults with disabilities. at the Tolbert Center in the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, STARS is supported primarily with funds from the Oklahoma State Department of Education, Special Education Services. Oklahoma Assistive Technology Center (OATC)

Improving Hand Function after Acute Neurological Injury

Review the evidence on splinting, exercise, occupational performance, fine/gross motor activities, and sensory stimulation for improving hand function after neurological injury across the lifespan. Introduction to Hand Evaluation and Treatment Concepts

Therapeutic Management of Cumulative Trauma Disorders

The therapist will be introduced to basic concepts of cumulative trauma disorders, including sites of impairments in the upper extremity (nerve and tendons), basic ergonomic principles and general concepts of treatment.Once you pass the examination, you are able to print off your continuing education certificate. Wound Care
1 CEU / 10 Contact Hrs
Instructor: L. Vince Lepak, PT, DPT, M.P.H, CWS
Audience: PT, PTA, OT, OTA, MD, DO, NS
The goal of this online Web course is to provide a resource for clinicians that help them refresh or update their knowledge about wound care. This Web Site is divided into 10 required modules and one optional module. To receive continuing education credit you must pass a post-test over the material and achieve an 80 percent pass rate. You can view and retake the exam as many times as necessary to achieve a passing score. Once you pass the examination, you are able to print off your continuing education certificate. Once the examination is passed a certificate can be printed.
