Doctor of Science Degree Program Admission Requirements
Admission Requirements
- Prior submitting an application, a prospective student must identify and contact a Department of Rehabilitation Sciences faculty member with compatible interests and goals who could become the student’s advisor. Applicants who do not know Department faculty should go to here, review the faculty information, and contact potential advisors to discuss interests and goals.

- Graduate of an accredited professional (entry-level) program in occupational therapy or physical therapy.
- Documentation of practical experience as an occupational therapist or a physical therapist for a total of at least two full-time years, preferably in pediatrics.
- Official transcripts from all of the colleges and/or universities the applicant has attended. Minimum grade point average (GPA): cumulative GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours. When calculating grade point average, the entire semester in which the 60 hours fall is counted. The admission committee also will consider grades in individual courses that it considers to be important for success in the program. University of Oklahoma graduates who have not taken courses since graduation do not need to submit transcripts.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test scores. Scores of 500 or higher on the verbal component, 500 or higher on the quantitative component, and 4 or higher on the writing assessment are preferred. Applicants who have taken the GRE and subsequently successfully completed a professional or postprofessional master’s degree are not required to take the GRE again. Please complete and submit the GRE waiver form.
- A one-page statement of the applicant's educational interests and goals, and intended specialty area as a student in the program. The statement should describe how the applicant expects the program to assist in meeting career goals. The admissions committee will consider the quality of the statement, the compatibility of the applicant’s career goals with the goals of the program, and the availability of faculty with expertise in the applicant’s area(s) of interest.
- Three letters of reference from individuals who can describe the applicant’s potential for success in a doctoral level program.
- If English is a second language, an official copy of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) taken within two years of the application. A score of 600 (paper), 250 (computer), 100 (Internet), or higher is required. The Web address for TOEFL is http://www.toefl.org.
- A completed University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center application.
