    Services for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and their Families

    SoonerStart is Oklahoma's early intervention program, and is designed to meet the needs of infants and toddlers with disabilities from birth to three and their families. SoonerStart is an interagency program with collaboration between the Oklahoma State Department of Education, Oklahoma Department of Health, Oklahoma Department of Human Services, Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, and the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth.

    The Circle of Inclusion Web Site offers information about effective practices of inclusive educational programs for children birth through age eight. 

    The Family Village provides information and resources for persons with disabilities, their families, and professionals who work with them. This Web Site provides links for information about hospitals, equipment, support groups, books, and information on specific diagnoses.

    The National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities (NICHCY) is a national information and referral center that provides information on disability and disability-related issues for families, educators, and other professionals, with a special focus on persons birth through age 22.

    The National Early Childhood Technical Assistance System is a national technical assistance consortium working to support states, jurisdictions, and others to improve services and results for young children with disabilities and their families. The Web Site provides information about the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, inclusion, and resources for young children.

    Zero to Three, the National Center for Infants, Toddlers, and Families provides information related to the healthy development of infants and toddlers. This site provides resources for parents and professionals related to child development, research, and other resources.

    The National Supported Employment Consortium provides information on supported employment on a national level. The site includes a listserv, web courses, and other resources.

    The National Transition Alliance for Youth with Disabilities (NTA) provides information related to transition from school to employment, postsecondary experiences and independent living, including information on model programs.

    The Special Education Resources on Transition Web Site provides information related to transition from school to work and adult life for young adults with disabilities.

    The ARC (National Employment and Training Center) of the United States is the nation's leading organization for individuals with mental retardation. Their Web Site provides information on resources, local chapters of ARC, books, and has a discussion board.


    Laws and Legislation

    The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) supports programs that assist in educating children with special needs, provides for the rehabilitation of youth and adults with disabilities, and supports research to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities.

    The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Web Site provides information on technical assistance and implementation of the ADA.
